Securing multi-operator-based QoS-aware mesh networks: requirements and design options
نویسندگان
چکیده
Wireless mesh networking allows network operators and service providers to offer nearly ubiquitous broadband access at a low cost to customers. In this paper, we focus on QoS-aware mesh networks operated by multiple operators in a cooperative manner. In particular, we identify the general security requirements of such networks and we give an overview on the available design options for a security architecture aiming at satisfying those requirements. More specifically, we consider the problems of mesh client authentication and access control, protection of wireless communications, securing the routing, key management, and intrusion and misbehavior detection and recovery. Our aim is to structure this rich problem domain and to prepare the grounds for the design of a practically usable security architecture. Copyright c © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Interference-Aware and Cluster Based Multicast Routing in Multi-Radio Multi-Channel Wireless Mesh Networks
Multicast routing is one of the most important services in Multi Radio Multi Channel (MRMC) Wireless Mesh Networks (WMN). Multicast routing performance in WMNs could be improved by choosing the best routes and the routes that have minimum interference to reach multicast receivers. In this paper we want to address the multicast routing problem for a given channel assignment in WMNs. The channels...
متن کاملDesign of a UMTS/GPRS Assisted Mesh Network (UAMN)
Wireless Mesh or multi-hop networks (WMNs) are well known thanks to its simplicity on deployment and the lack of infrastructure. These two advantages come with some drawbacks. WMNs have limitations with the support of Quality of Service (QoS), they do not assure coverage or even connectivity, and security, management and monitoring are not considered key requirements. In order to benefit of mes...
متن کاملA New Fairness Index and Novel Approach for QoS-Aware Resource Allocation in LTE Networks Based on Utility Functions
Resource allocation techniques have recently appeared as a widely recognized feature in LTE networks. Most of existing approaches in resource allocation focus on maximizing network’s utility functions. The great potential of utility function in improving resource allocation and enhancing fairness and mean opinion score (MOS) indexes has attracted large efforts over the last few years. In this p...
متن کاملNetwork Coding Based Link Scheduling for QoS Provisioning in Multi-radio and Multi-channel Wireless Mesh Networks
This paper addresses Quality-of-Service (QoS) improvement in wireless mesh networks (WMNs) with multi-radio multi-channel by applying a novel network coding technique. It is known that network coding over wired networks enables connections at rates that cannot be achieved by traditional routings. However, the properties of wireless networks (e.g., omnidirectional transmissions, destructive inte...
متن کاملIncorporating QoS Awareness in Routing Metrics for Wireless Mesh Networks
Wireless mesh networks (WMNs) consist of mesh clients that can be either stationary or mobile, and static mesh routers through which the clients communicate with each other and with the Internet or other networks. Wireless mesh networks have established their presence with a promise of supporting variegated traffic ranging from real-time to besteffort while providing coverage to large metropoli...
